Y is a character in Alphablocks. He is voiced by Teresa Gallagher.

Appearance[]

Y is a light yellow Alphablock with a tiny curl of hair sticking out from the top of his glass cap. He has round eyes, small eyebrows, and freckles on his cheeks. He sometimes has an alternating stripe pattern on his block whenever he is used as a vowel.

Personality[]

Y will never give up in getting what he wants, not unlike a typical toddler. In Why, he wanted to join the vowel ensemble with a musical number. He is also curious and likes to ask "Why?".

Episodes[]

Total number of appearances: 29

He appeared in 21.70% of all Alphablocks episodes, including crossovers.

Trivia[]

  • Spelling-wise, he is a semivowel, a letter that is sometimes a consonant (yeast) but other times a vowel (sky, funny, and gym).
    • He never says a short I sound in the series.
  • He can say four sounds, most out of any single Alphablock. (one consonant sound and three vowel sounds)
  • Contrary to common belief, Y is not the only semi-vowel. W and R are also considered semi-vowels, either by their sound (oowuh, erruh) or the fact that they can team up with vowels. However, he is the only fully-recognised semi-vowel.
  • Below are the nine episodes that show him getting vowel stripes:
  • He appears to be the youngest out of all the Alphablocks.
  • According to Band Together, he’s apparently a bouncer.
  • Y and T are the only consonants to be seen with stripes.
    • However, unlike T, Y temporarily gets stripes when he makes a vowel sound on his own or makes a digraph with another vowel. T's stripes are part of his design.
  • When Y becomes a vowel, he usually makes E’s long sound when he’s not in a digraph with another vowel. He has done this on three occasions, compared to only making I’s long sound on one occasion. Additionally, the digraph Y has been in the most episodes as is AY, having done so on three occasions, appearing in the digraph OY on two occasions, and only appearing in the digraph EY on one occasion.
  • He's the only male Alphablock voiced by a female actress to not be voiced by Lizzie Waterworth.
