Wonderblocks (formerly Thinkingblocks) is an animated series created by Blue-Zoo Productions and broadcast by CBeebies. The show educates children on coding, problem solving, and animals. This is the fourth and latest Learningblocks show.

YouTube Channel Description

Wonderblocks is a new series from the creators of Numberblocks, Alphablocks and Colourblocks all about problem solving.

Wonderblocks helps little learners develop important problem-solving skills as they explore exciting places alongside their new friends, Go and Stop.

Together with the helpful 'Do Blocks,' they'll solve different problems for their animal friends across the world. Whether it's helping Cow find her moo with Do Block Moo or assisting Secret Agent Chicken to crack the hen house code with Do Block Cluck, every episode is packed with excitement and learning for your little ones.

This show's leading duo, excitable Go and methodical Stop, showcase the perfect balance of action and thought. They will have your little ones giggling as well as showing core skills like problem solving, planning, pattern recognition and sequencing. Whilst exploring the values of teamwork, friendship, curiosity, and a love of learning, perfect for building coders and inquisitive minds everywhere.

News

The following paragraphs are excerpts from the BBC article "Home grown talent, animations and culturally relevant co-productions lead the way as BBC Children's announce new commissions".

Late 2023 Commissions

Numberblocks and friends will be returning as part of a four year output plan for the Blocks universe, following BBC Children’s and Education investment in multiple series in the Blocks franchise. Produced by Alphablocks Ltd and Blue Zoo animation studios, the order will include a second series of Colourblocks, further series of both Numberblocks and Alphablocks, as well as brand new title Thinkingblocks which introduces coding to a preschool audience.

Early 2024 ABL Plan

The agreement will deliver new episodes of flagship Blocks brand programming over a five-year period, extending the presence of Alphablocks, Numberblocks and bringing a brand new Blocks series to market.

Trivia

General

  • It was originally pitched to CBeebies in March 2020, just before lockdown, five years before the show’s release. This has been the longest planning between two shows.
  • The trademark for the show (under it’s former name Thinkingblocks) was registered on the 1st of July, 2021.
  • The trademark for the show (under it’s current name) was registered on the 19th of February, 2024.
  • The series was originally expected to release in late 2024, but since 2024 passed, it is no longer the case.
    • The possible reason for the delay to January 2025 is because of the rename to Wonderblocks.
    • A revealed release date of Wonderblocks is Monday 20th January, on BBC iPlayer.
  • The series was originally named Thinkingblocks, but now the name has changed, and it's currently Wonderblocks. This was changed due to copyright of Math Playground’s Thinking Blocks from earlier in the 2000's.
  • Unless the crossover specials aren't counted, this is the first show to have two kinds of blocks: Wonderblocks and Do Blocks.
  • Teresa hinted at this show during her livestream back in November, so there’s a chance she voiced it. But it’s unknown.
  • To add on this, Teresa follows Wonderblocks on Instagram, so the chance that Teresa voiced for Wonderblocks is now higher, but still unknown.
  • According to a CBeebies article, there's a possibility that there's a Do Block for almost every situation (the confirmed ones are Do Block Moo and Do Block Cluck).
  • This is the first Learningblocks show to premiere episodes in 2025, as well as in Generation Beta.
  • It is the first Learningblocks show with more than one main protagonist.
    • This show has three.
  • The animation style and facial expressions are similar to the ones in Colourblocks.
  • This show has similar things with Alphablocks: they both are made in January, both titular characters in those shows have "holding hands" powers, those characters have the same shape of legs, and they both have more then one character on the logo.
  • This is the Learningblocks show that took the longest to create and premiere. The BlueZoo website stated this show was in production since 2020.
    • For reference, Alphablocks took three years, from 2007-2010.
    • Numberblocks took only two years, from 2015-2017.
    • Colourblocks didn't reveal the time they started production, yet, but it may have been greenlit alongside Wonderblocks in 2020, when Numberblocks hit a newbie boom.

Pre-Release Production

  • The animators are confirmed to be Hollie Myers, Natalia Fox, Unity Addison, and Josie Hanlon. [1]
  • The now-abandoned United States Patent and Trademark Office trademark has set Wonderblocks to have motion picture films and series DVDs for educational programming.[2]
