Utterly unfair!

— U, various episodes

U is a character in Alphablocks. He is voiced by David Holt.

Appearance

U is a striped cyan Alphablock who wears a cyan hat or cap, eyeglasses, and bright blue shoes.

Personality

Internally, U often feels like a doormat to the other Alphablocks, as bad things happen solely to him. He also might get fed up with Q but starts to stand her later. U is also a bit shy and doesn't like trying new things. His character design might be inspired by the fact that the /ʌ/ sound is like the "Uhhh..." line when someone feels timid.

Episodes

Total number of appearances: 55 (Physical)

Trivia

  • The only episode in which U was a long vowel is Blue.
  • He seems to be the unluckiest Alphablock.
  • U is coloured similarly to the box in the episode Odd, but the box has a lighter colour than he does.
  • U is the only bespectacled character to be seen without glasses, even if only for a split second.
  • U, alongside F and N, cameo as a block toy in the Numberblocks episode Tween Scenes.
  • He can play the piano.
  • U resembles a stereotypical nerd.
  • U shares a similar appearance to Two, as both wear glasses and shoes, they even wear their shoes and glasses to bed.
    • Just like Two, he is one of the first characters to be disabled if his glasses are a prescription, which they most likely are given he cleaned them once.
  • In Outlaw, it is revealed that he does not own pets.
  • In Wish, a blue flower with glasses resembles him because of its look.
  • His Cyrillic letter is Ү (ü) instead of У (u) so that it fits the Mongolian name of Alphablocks: "Үсгэн блок"
  • He is the fourth or fifth Alphablock alphabetically to lack eyebrows.
  • He's the only Alphablock with glasses, but the fourth Alphablock alphabetically with any kind of eyewear. The other 4 are X with his mask, T with his monocle, R with her eyepatch, and C with her goggles.
  • U is the only vowel Alphablock to have footwear, wear a head accessory, and wear glasses.
    • U is also the only vowel Alphablock to lack eyebrows.
  • If tricky words are counted, U is currently the only vowel left to be a long vowel on his own.
    • A was long in "Fox" (lazy), O was long in that episode (over) as well as in "Bus" (post), I was long in "Quiet" (uiet, quiet), and Y was long in "Why" (a lot of words here), "Party" (party), and "Letters to Santa" (jolly). Counting tricky words, I was also long in "I Am I!" and "Who Can Help?" (I), O was long in "Maze" (no, go, to), and E was long in "Who Can Help?" (he, she, we). E is left to be long in a full decodable word, though.
