Ten: Welcome to Ten's Rocket Ride! Our next rocket is ready! So, where would you like to fly today?
Ten: A trip to Planet 2 costs two pennies each. Let me work out your total. Reks!
[Reks jumps onto the desk]
Reks: Ha-ho! Reks is here, so shout hooray! With just one push, you're on your way!
Ten: Two, and two more, is four! Four pennies please!
[The aliens give one 2-penny coin and two 1-penny coins]
Ten: Oh! A 2-penny coin! Two, and two ones. That's four pennies altogether. Enjoy your flight!
[The two aliens scoot over to the other ten]
Other Ten: Hop aboard! Blast off!
[They blast off to Planet 2]
[One arrives on her rocket-chair]
One: Hello Ten! I came to see how your new rocket-ride service was going!
Ten: It's really taking off!
Robots: We'd like to fly to Planet 4 please.
Ten: That's four pennies each. Reks? Four, and four, that's eight pennies in total please.
One: Wow! That was fast!
Reks: Reks lets you see the answer straight away!
Ten: If I push four beads over, and another four, I can see straight away that there are five red beads and three white ones.
One: And five and three is eight!
Robots: Here is a 10-penny coin.
Reks: I have 10 beads in total.
Ten: And with eight on that side, I can easily see it takes two more to make ten. So I owe you two pennies change.
Other Ten: Blast off!
Blue Alien: I'd like to go to Planet 6 please.
Yellow Alien: And I'm going to Planet 3!
Ten: That's six pennies, and three pennies. One, see if Reks can help you work it out.
One: Ok! Let's start with 6! 1, 2...
Reks: Counting is slow!
Ten: See if you can push six across at once, it's much faster.
One: Well, there are five red beads, and six is one more than five. That's six beads. And I know what three beads looks like. That leaves just one on the right, so there must be nine on the left. Nine pennies please!
Ten: That's five. And two twos are four. And five and four...
Reks: is nine!
Ten: Thanks!
Other Ten: Blast off!
*the aliens giggle as the other Ten blasts off*
Decablobs: Boing, boing! Boing, boing!
One: Wow!
Ten: Those are Decablobs, from Planet 10! Where can we take you today?
Decablobs: Planet 7, Planet 7!
Ten: A trip to Planet 7 will cost you seven pennies each. We're going to need another Reks. My may only go up to ten...
*the other Ten returns*
Other Ten: but so does mine! Let's double up! Ten, and ten...
Twenty: is Twenty!
*the two Reks' combine into a Rekenrek*
One: *giggles* Reks doubled up as well! It's Reks, and Reks!
Rekenrek: Reks and Reks is hard to say. Call me Rekenrek! Hooray!
Twenty: My rekenrek has even more ways to show numbers! Look! Seven on the top row, and seven on the bottom! The reds are on this side, all ten of them. Plus four more white beads, and ten and four is fourteen!
One: So it will cost the two of you fourteen pennies please!
*a regular Numberblob pops out from between the two Decablobs*
Numberblob: And Planet 3 for me!
Twenty: Ho ho! I didn't see you there! You'll need to add three more pennies.
One: There are three more beads on the top row. That's all ten beads on the top row, and five and two, seven, on the bottom, which is seventeen pennies in total!
*the Decablobs and Numberblob bounce off, leaving a 17-penny coin on the counter*
One: Wow! What a funny looking coin!
*Twenty splits back into two Tens*
Ten: This trip needs both of us! One, would you mind the counter for a bit!
One: Yes please!
