Painting by Numbers is the first episode of the sixth series of Numberblocks. It is the 121st episode overall.

Synopsis[]

The Numberblocks are painting each other on their canvases, but Three has painted Two with one too many blocks. She realises her mistake and disguises herself as Two to convince the other Numberblocks she has got it right. Soon, she learns that no matter the colour of your blocks, it’s the number that really counts.

Plot[]

It starts with Two finishing to paint the Numberblock Castle. However, Three hasn't finished her painting of Two. Four announces he finished his painting, and it is revealed to be a painting of Nine from Now You See Us. Three doesn't believe it's Nine as the colours are different. Two easily recognises Nine in the painting due to his grin, his square eyes and his Numberling. Two goes off to give One his painting as a present. Three tries to stop him before he leaves so that Three can show him her painting. Four and Nine take a look at Three's painting, and figure out something isn't right. However, Three doesn't notice anything until she takes a look at Two's blocks. Then, Three comes up with an idea. She rushes to the Numberblock Castle and disguises herself as Two.

As Three steps out of the castle disguised as Two, she tells her Numberling to hide, to not make it obvious that she isn't Two. She greets Four and Nine like how Two would greet them. However, Nine and Four notice something strange about 'Two'. Four asks where her shoes went, and Three says she danced them off. Nine says that if she's Two, then she should have two blocks. Three says that she does, and counts two blocks on her body, but the third one buzzes red. Four points out that she has a third block. Then, Nine realises that she is Three. Three says that she isn't herself, and as soon as she says that, she knows she is busted. So, she runs away, and as soon as she does, Two arrives. Three uses the wand again, and crashes into Two. Both of them become five ones, of five different colours. They add up again, and realise they've turned into different colours, but they're still the same number. Four and Nine go up to Two, to find that he is the real Two, as he has two blocks. Three points out that anyone can have two blocks.

Three runs away as soon as she says this. She uses the magic mirror to duplicate herself and add up to Six. Four, Nine and two find Six, to think she was Three. Two says he sees, two light blue blocks, two light pink blocks, and two dark red blocks. Nine adds it all up to get Six. Then Six duplicates herself, hides behind the bush, turns into another number and pops out.

Seven is glad to be used to being different colours. but everyone else is not. So, Three decides it's time to change everyone back. She uses the wand to turn everybody yellow and says everyone is now the perfect colour. Everyone calls out her name while the episode ends.

  • This is the first appearance of the Numberblocks since the crossover special: The Blocks v Blocks Games in 2022, making it the longest absence of the Numberblocks ever, being two years.
  • Every Numberblock from 1 to 9 appears in this episode except Five. As a matter of fact, there are no multiples of five in this episode.
  • This is the sixth episode where Numberblocks changed their colour.
  • Two has paint on him the whole time he was orange.
  • Three had called herself a master of disguise previously, this was confirmed to be true in this episode.
  • This episode's title was mentioned in More to Explore, in the line "Painting by numbers? Good start!". Coincidentally, this episode is at the start of Series 6.
  • There is a reference to How to Count when Three flashes red after counting the wrong amount.
  • This episode takes place chronologically after Now You See Us, since the Numberblocks castle appears and a painting of Nine with 9 colours appears in this episode and so does the flashback.
  • When Eight says "Silly colours! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, silly colours!", it may be a reference to the Colourblocks episode Silly Colouring. Coincidentally, this episode aired the week after the Colourblocks finale aired.

Errors[]

  • Debatable error: In the scenes where Seven first appears and before Three turns everyone yellow, his violet (7th) hair strand is deep blue. It is unknown if this was intentional or not.
Ah yes, Deep Blue is the seventh color of the rainbow

This rainbow goes Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Indigo, Deep Blue.
