Attention, Numberland! - One Hundred
This page has been serial victim to repeat vandalism or unnecessary content adding, so here is a quick disclaimer:

Do not replace the infobox image to a fanmade image with the Numberblocks figured out in the seventh series. Keep it as it is, please.

The Numberblocks are the titular protagonists of the show of the same name. They are a race of living counting blocks from the fictional planet Numberland. They seem to have no hands with fingers and feet with toes (except Five and Ten who have glove-like hands, as which their fingers also glow). They each have a symbol called a Numberling that floats on top of them, and that represents the type of number they're made up of. They can do maths with themselves or with other Numberblocks, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing.

Appearance

Most Numberblocks (excluding Zero, who is simply a numberling 0 with a floating mouth) are made of countable blocks. They have as many blocks as the number they represent (One has one block, Two has two blocks, etc.). Additionally, they have floating decimal digits called Numberlings that show the amount of blocks they have. They have two circular (sometimes oval, rounded square, or rounded rectangular-shaped) eyes (excluding One, One Hundred, and a few others, who only have one), mouths, and digitless arms and legs (excluding Five and Ten who have gloves for hands).

The Numberblocks' block designs are based on the decimal (base ten) number system. The colours of the Numberblocks' blocks correlate to the digit of their place value: red for 1, orange for 2, yellow 3, green 4, cyan (referred in the show as blue) 5, indigo 6, the previous colours in sequence plus violet for 7[1], magenta for 8, and three light to dark grey shades for 9.

Additionally, the blocks will dynamically change depending on their digits' place; more specifically, their blocks will group into borders that divide their places representing their place value. One (n * 1) blocks are simply bright blocks. Ten (n * 10) blocks have light colours with bright borders. The light colours are an exception to Numberblocks with only one ten block, as it will be white with a red border. This is likely to remind that ten is the base for their number system. Hundred (n * 100) blocks are checkerboard-patterned and have a dark border. This pattern resets for greater places, like thousands, in which the blocks will be grouped into simple bright blocks like ones, so this pattern can repeat.

Most of the Numberblocks' designs and/or personalities are based on how their number applies to real life. For example, Eight's design is reminiscent of an octopus, since they have eight arms. Eleven's personality is based on football, as football teams usually have eleven members. Thirty-One's design and personality reference calendars, as a calendar month can have 31 days at most.

Like the Alphablocks, Numberblocks with the same properties share similar design attributes.

Other design rules for other number properties include:

  • Multiples of 10 (excluding Ten herself and Ninety) and Eighty-One resemble their smaller equivalents, and have similar personalities with emphasised traits.
  • Numbers whose names begin with "one" have one eye (excluding compound numbers).
  • Step squads (triangular numbers) greater than or equal to Fifteen wear a mask[2] (though the preceding four step squads have worn a mask in Step Squads).
  • Square numbers have square-shaped eyes (excluding Nine Hundred, Ninety Thousand, and partially 1).
  • Super rectangles (numbers that have at least six factors) have rectangular eyes (excluding magnitudes of non-super rectangles and non-squares). This also applies to super-duper rectangles (numbers that have at least eight factors).
  • Super rectangles and super-duper rectangles have array displays (excluding 64).
  • Prime numbers above 20 have identical faces, though they do differ in colour.
  • Multiples of Eleven (excluding Fifty-Five) have differently sized eyes. The larger right eye (viewers' left) represents the ten-blocks, while the smaller left eye (viewers' right) represents the one-blocks.
  • Times table finishers during Series 7 and Thirty-Five resemble their multiples (like Sixty-Three resembling a Nine Sevens and Fifty-Four playing 3x3 grid games). They also have alter-egos respective to that if they resemble that.

Compound Numberblocks

Main Article: Compound Numberblocks

Compound Numberblocks are two or more Numberblocks of different place value that are conjoined to represent the number they would be if they added together, for example, 58 looks like 50 and 8 conjoined together.

Compound Numberblocks have the ability to 'figure themselves out': this is when they discover their personality and become one unique Numberblock instead of at least 2 Numberblocks conjoined together. The first Compound Numberblock to figure themselves out, and the first Compound Numberblock overall, was 21 in Twenty-One and On.

History

Early Moments

It is a mystery where the Numberblocks came from, but one day, a single, small red block fell from the sky onto Numberland. It soon came to life and met a Numberling 1, which bounced on top of the block and made it figure out that she is One.

Some time later, with the help of a Magic Mirror, One was able to create new friends up to Five and organise various different activities and events.

Meeting the Alphablocks

One day, after travelling through space and stopping on another planet in the aftermath of 100 Ways to Leave the Planet, the Numberblocks came across and became friends with different, but similar blocks called the Alphablocks who, instead of count, spell.

Diet

Food is commonly seen, but it mostly appears to be vegetarian. It is known that the Numberblocks are not vegan because they are occasionally seen drinking milk. They also love pastries and candies, possibly suggesting a species-wide sweet tooth. Five eats fish, but she is rarely seen eating vegetation, suggesting she’s a carnivore. Everyone receives a sandwich in 100 Ways to Leave the Planet, but the filling is never seen.

Powers and abilities

The Numberblocks in general have lots of powers and abilities.

Splitting and Combining Mass

Numberblocks are capable of splitting into smaller Numberblocks (subtraction and division), or combining into a bigger Numberblock (addition and multiplication). The only two Numberblocks who cannot split is One since she is a unit block, and Zero since she has no mass, while virtually any Numberblock can combine.

Sometimes, when Numberblocks split or combine, they will enact a math equation as they do it.

There are also times where a Numberblock split its blocks without actually turning into two separate Numberblocks, such as The Whole of Me, Ten, and Balancing Bridge.

Invisible Anatomy

Numberblocks can hide their limbs, face, and their Numberling(s). This is especially shown with Fifteen.

Seventeen allegedly keeps his brush behind his ear, Six mentions that her step squad have their fingers on buzzers, and Twelve tells the compounds to touch their toes. The Numberblocks are not animated with any of these body parts except for Five and Ten who have fingers.

Glowing

When a Numberblock counts their blocks, they will glow. When they finish counting, their entire body will glow. Additionally, when counting a number of things, both their blocks and said things will glow. Their glows may also pitch to the melody of any music playing.

If a Numberblock counts incorrectly, as seen in "How to Count" and "Painting by Numbers", they will glow red and flash. A buzzer sound also plays.

Shapeshifting

All of the Numberblocks are capable of shifting the formation of their blocks as they please[3]. Super rectangles and Nineteen revolve entirely around this power, as it involves them changing shapes. Even One has previously changed her form.

Super-Strength

Some Numberblocks appear to be very strong, such as the squares (except for One). (e.g. Four carried almost three times his own weight by himself, while Nine once held Four, Six and Eight sitting on a metal bar.) Eight is another Numberblock who possesses lots of strength.

Flight

If a Numberblock makes an arrangement of a rectangle, or array, they will be able to fly and float with the help of vertical and horizontal rays. The more rays they use, the more powerful the ray power would be and the faster they can go. This was first seen in Twelve's episode. It is the super rectangles' signature talents.

Ten has her own method of flight, acting like a rocket and blasting off after counting down from ten.

Fifty-Five also has his method, launching as a rocket when arranging himself into that shape.

There are times when Numberblocks fly (or float) without rays. Eight briefly flies up to the screen of his AI in Crossover, and it is heavily implied that Eighty can naturally fly as well. Nineteen sometimes flies or levitates in some of her transformations. Many Numberblocks are seen temporarily levitating above the ground as well, as seen in Grid Unlocked (where Twenty-Five can be seen flipping herself about to demonstrate her properties as a square number).

Immortality

The Numberblocks are likely to be immortal. They appear to be incapable of aging, and they can also breathe (and hear) in space without use of space helmets.

Numberblocks are, however, shown to get scared whenever they encounter things that could potentially cause their demise, such as a pair of Fours getting chased by a rolling boulder in Double Trouble, and getting grabbed by Blockzilla. Numberblocks are also shown to feel hunger in Leap Blob.

Magic Mirror Use

According to Five and Two, the Numberblocks are the only species that can be copied by the magic mirrors.

Telekinesis

An arguable and immensely brief power. Twelve has telekinesis which she uses in episodes like "Loop the Loop" and "Twelve". In "Flights of Fancy", Ten lifted a launch platform from the ground.

Colour Changing

Another arguable and immensely brief power. This only happened a few episodes, like "We're Going on a Square Hunt" with Twenty-Five, and The Rolling Sixes, with Sixty and Forty-Eight.

Trivia

  • Some of the Numberblocks' early designs were inspired by animals.
  • The Numberblocks are the only Blocks Universe characters to…
    • …transform into other of their kind by combining or splitting (Alphablocks do also merge, but they are still two or more separate blocks).
    • …all be able to naturally fly and levitate. All of the natural Numberblocks (1 and greater) fly via rays, while Zero flies by herself. Some Numberblocks have their own methods of flight.
    • …have fully animated mouths, as the other Blocks Universe characters do not use tweens.
  • Despite being able to breathe in space, they can't breathe underwater, as shown when Six was wearing a diving helmet in the episode Nineteen. This is an exception to Eight and Nineteen (partially).
  • Not including the alter-egos, each Numberblocks subspecies is a hive mind, because clones share the same personality, voice, gender, and memories from the original one.
