Friendly Fours' Beach Day is the second episode of the seventh series of Numberblocks. It is the 137th episode overall.

Synopsis[]

Four has organised a fun beach day. He uses the magic mirror to help him make more fours and add them together. Can he work out which of the Friendly Fours belong in which hut?

Plot[]

Forty is finished building the beach hut, making the beach day for the Fours on the Floor, or should I say Fours on the Shore, better than ever! Four takes his hut, which is the 1st. Forty is going to take a nap, so he takes his hut, which is the 10th, since the Numberblock of each hut is 1 more 4 than the 4 before. Wait, which of the other huts are for whom, and in what order? Four sees a magic mirror and uses it to double up. 4 + 4 = 2 × 4 = 8. Eight takes the 2nd hut. Eight decides to do what Four did. 2 × 8 = (2 × 2) × 4 = 4 × 4 = 16. Sixteen take the 4th hut. 4, 8, _, 16.

Still so much to go. Who fills in the empty space? 16 - 4 = (4 × 4) - (1 × 4) = (4 - 1) × 4 = 3 × 4 = 12. The 3rd hut is for Twelve! Twenty arrives, and he's 2 lots of 10, which is 2 lots of 2 lots of 5, or 4 × 5. The 5th hut is for him. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, _, _, _, _, 40.

Who is next? 20 + 4 = (5 + 1) × 4 = 6 × 4 = 24. Twenty-Four gets the 6th hut. Three huts left. More doubling, perhaps? 2 × (2 × 4) = 16, and 2 × (4 × 4) = 8 × 4 = 32. Thirty-Two takes the 8th hut. Whoever is in between huts 6 and 8 is 4 more than 24 and 4 less than 32. Either way, it's 7 × 4, 28! 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, _, 40.

One more hut, and it's 4 more than 32 and 4 less than 40. (10 - 1) × 4 = 9 × 4 = 36. He's a square times a square; 4 × 9! The 9th hut is for him. The Numberblocks finish the hut-line, and just in time; the others arrived. 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40! Now let's go build sandcastles!

Trivia[]

  • This is the third times table prologue episode. The first one is Twoland and the second one is Too Many Threes, while the fourth one is All-Star Line-Up, the fifth one is The Rolling Sixes and the sixth one is The Rainbow Makers.
    • There aren't any One times table or Ten times table prologue episodes, since counting and skip counting by tens have been covered before many times and these times tables are easy to remember.
  • Even though Four on the Floor aired in 2021, it is possible this prologue takes places before that said episode.
  • The huts turning into the colours of the Numberblock that knocks on its door resembles Colourblocks colouring things.
  • The magic mirror is used in this episode.
    • This episode marks the return of the magic mirror since Making Friends.
  • This episode marks the return of Twenty-Four, Twenty-Eight, Thirty-Two, Thirty-Six and Forty since Series 5.
  • Nine is the only non-multiple of Four and the only odd Numberblock in this episode. However, he only appears when Thirty-Six splits into four Nines.
